Samba and Web server setup

*shakes fist at windows machine*

I have a linux box setup with RH 9, php, mysql and samba services running. I have the Samba working to the point where I can see it with the other windows machines, but i cannot save/write anything. I thought it was the writable setting in the conf file - it's not. i've changed permission and that and it still won't let me save anything.

I also noticed that whenever I save my conf file it doesn't really stay, because when i reopen it looks the same as before i made the changes...is there a reason samba would be re-writing my changes?

php is working!

mysql is not. it says i need the extension installed...and i found many postings about this, that i need to install the php-mysql rpm...but that didn't work.

i can access my server locally, view the webpage in php, can't save anything from a remote location, and can't install phpmyadmin (but i can access mysql through the command line) ....

how do i get this up and running? if you need any more info let me know...lots of pieces here..

if you edit the conf file it shouldn't revert! be sure you've write permissions and restart samba after altering the file.
the thing with your httpd will likely also be a permission problem in the specific configuration file.

Unhappy noper

I have write permissions, and it does stay now, but the linux still becomes the domain controller in the workgroup of windows machines...which sometimes screws up the network. *shrug*

Windows still will not let me save anything onto the server...even thought permission is set as writeable. is there some other setting i need to adjust to make changes on a remote location? maybe if i saw the conf file of osmeone else i could see something...

you may lower "os level" or comment out "local/domain master = yes" in your smb.conf

make a directory for guest account (browseable, puplic, writeable, guest ok) and check there again. if it work it's a prob with authentification. if your machines are ms98 up "encrypt passwords = true".

send in your smb.conf ("testparm > ~/samba.config.txt") and relevant info from the logfiles (/var/log/samba)
