Samba and corrupt files
I made a public share and transferd a few GB to it via the network. At least 40% of the files got corrupt.
Has anybody had any experience with this and know how to fix it? It seamed to be a one off. But ofcourse that isnt acceptable becaue its difficult to know if nothing has been corrupt unless you test ....every.... single file. I had sent another set of files before hand totaling about a GB (however the files on average were much smaller) and there doesnt apear to be any corrupti files there. Im using samba 2.2 on debian woody. The configuation is pritty much default. I havent added anything other than uncommented examples and edited to my needs. security = user. |
h there
could u explain what do u mean by corrupt in this sense?? also what File system are u using? regards |
files names got mangled and are not recognised by any programs I try opening them in. eg: DCF0924.JPG became D##£$93.JPG I even had some apear as directorys
the server is using ext3 they were transfered from winXP with NTFS via a 10Mb netgear network hub |
i have dome this a lot fo times but i haven't faced any problem though like thius
as far as file names are concerned once i too encountered them was when i had recompiled my kernel with partial suppoort for fat32 partitons and that partitipn was showing the file names in impproper fashion due unavailaibilty of proper charset regards |
thanks
I'm worried now, prehaps it could be a hardware problem somewhere  |
