samba

hey
I tried searching the forums and i didn't find anything that would answer this question... I recently set up samba and it worked... I could browse the windows computer through nautilus, as well as linneighborhood. The only thing is it doesn't work anymore.
I am using the same smb.conf file and same users etc.
The problem is like this now...
starting samba and nmbd is no problem they both are working when i do a "ps x"
however when I click rescan groups in linneighborhood nothing shows up... 20 minutes later if i try again sometimes it will show up and sometimes it won't.
The winxp computer was able to browse my files ... now it won't show the linux computer in network neighborhood at all... but sometimes after a while it will!!!
the problem with that now is that it is asking for a password and when I type the password that "used" to work, the password window will just continually pop up asking for a password...
any ideas on why this is happening?
basically sometimes it is showing the computers, sometimes not. and now the password in winxp won't work.

thanks

check the logs? better yet, use a packet sniffer on your linux box to check what's going on with your windows and samba system. try ethereal.
