SAMBA 3.0.0-1/ICPM "Host Unreachable" error

Hey,
I seem to be having a host unreachable error whenever I ping.
The computer gives the usual firewalled response when I attempt a ping on the localhost and eth0 IP addresses (127.0.0.1 and 192.168.0.3 respectively), but I am unable to ping my router/default gateway (192.168.0.1) or access (or ping) the rest of the network.
I'm not quite sure how this happened. iwconfig and ifconfig both show correct settings and the network was perfectly fine until I attempted to upgrade from SAMBA 2.2.7aMDK to SAMBA 3.0.0-1MDK. When I installed SAMBA 3 w/ the RPMs at first it wouldn't uninstall 2.2.7a (the preinstalled default for Mandrake 9.1), but then RPMDrake performed the uninstallation for me. I still have certain SAMBA 2-looking files but smbd and nmbd (v2) are both nonexistent on the system. nmbd3 and smbd3 (SAMBA 3's versions) seem to run fine, but TCP/IP configuration seems to have a problem. If I need to, I can post my iwconfig and ifconfig results, but as Id have to type them, I'm not going to do so unless asked. Does anyone have any ideas? Also, Samba 3's RPMs say theyre already installed when I attempt to reinstall them, but then when I attempt to uninstall them RPM says that these RPMs have not yet been installed--what the heck?!?
But I put this on this board because my problem appears to be somewhere in the Linux TCP/IP configuration--I just have no idea what could have gone wrong to have caused this!

Mike

P.S.
The network connection was fine until I installed Samba 3. I know this because I was using console V0 to do the installation and V7/X-Windows to use AIM and be online simultaneously. I also did use killall to kill the smbd and nmbd daemons before attempting the upgrade.

What might Samba have done during its RPM installation that would mess up TCP/IP (I'm assuming this is what's wrong...?)?
