LinuxQuestions.org - Sagem 800, routing & masquerading

Hi.

I've recently installed a SageM800 DSL modem, courtesy of Tiscalli. My connection works fine, but I am having difficulties setting up my SuSE92 box as a router.

I think the problem stems from the fact that the Sagem usb modem has been recognised as a standard modem by YAST, and not as a DSL device.

The modem is configured to use /dev/ttyACM0, and will only connect using a command, 'startadsl' (courtesy of eagle-usb, who supply drivers for the Sagem).

When I try to set up routing, masquerading and firewalling through YAST, the SageM modem does not appear as an optional device. I have tried configuring the SageM as a standard modem named modem0 and using that instead. If I connect to the internet and do an ifconfig, I find that the address has been given to device 'ppp0'.

I'm fairly sure that 'modem0' is a red herring, and that my firewall is protecting a non-existant interface. Could it be that linking ppp0 to /dev/ttyACM0 may be along the right lines? However, presently neither ppp0 or /dev/ttyACM0 are listed as options for firewalling or routing.

My question is:

Is there a way that I can either link these devices (ppp0 and /dev/ttyACM0) together and force one of them to appear in the interfaces list in YAST, or alternately force my SageM modem to be recognised as a DSL device?
