Running Linux on DirectVDSL

Okay, I have a problem accessing one of my systems. I have a DirectvDSL connection with their Connect & Protect package on one of their small business plans so violating the AUP here is not an issue (Before anybody comments on that heh). My problem is this..... I have one static IP address which is world reaachable where one Linux bos is operational. The second one is on a 10.x.x.x network where the IP address can be dynamically configured by a built-in DHCP server inside their gateway/router/DSL modem. The gateway/router/modem also has a static IP address for the gateway, but I cannot assign it directly to a machine for obvious reasons. The C & P package by definition assigns 1 static and 4 dynamic IP addresses to the account. Is it possible to make the second server also accessible to the outside world? If so, how???

No,

The router that Telocity (er... yeah, direct TV DSL), gave you cannot be set to port forward. That router has the static real world IP, and is masquearading those 4 private IPs for you. If you went ahead and purchased one of those router in a box dealy woohoos from say Linksys, that can be set to port forward, turn off the "connect and protect crap" so that the DirectTVDSL router straight hands the IP off to the Linksys router in a box. The DirectTVDSL router on its own is far too mickey mouse.

Or, you can turn off that connect and protect scam, plug your linux box directly into the router, then drop another ethernet card in it and set it up to masquerade for the home LAN and connect as many PCs as you want.

Telosucky, Ne Direct Shaft will never be able to tell the difference, at least they never figured out that I was doing that for 2 years.

Cheers,

Finegan
