Running a email server

Heiya

There are some sites that dont allow free emails to sign up with
So I thought of setting up a email server at my comp
using <user>@xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (my ip)

Im all dunno how to do this... It would be great if I could reach the email server thru a webbinterferance on my apache server

What softwares are requierd for these?
Is there a free soloution ?

is there a free solution? this is linux... you're falling over free solutions.

pick an smtp server - sendmail, postfix, exim, qmail
pick a web server - apache
pick an imap server - courier, cyrus, wu
pick a webmail - imp, squirrelmail

install them, after reading the relevant documentation.

note that there really is no such thing as an "email server" you can serve so many different things related to email...

and don't use your ip... that's daft... use a dynamic dns host. dyndns.com dynu.com noip.com...
