RTNETLINK error-In connection to internet

Hi all

Off late whenever i open my internet mozilla browser, every page takes a li'l more time and finally(that too randomly yet frequently) gives the result as " this page cannot be opened" as a dialog box and the page remains invalid and static.

i am working on a fedora 6 core.
when i gave a "service network restart" command...it gives the following o/p :
service network restart
Shutting down interface eth0: [ OK ]
Shutting down loopback interface: [ OK ]
SIOCGIFFLAGS: No such device
Bringing up loopback interface: [ OK ]
Bringing up interface eth0: RTNETLINK answers: File exists
Error adding address 192.168.1.234 for eth0.
[ OK ]

i tried to change the IP..
reconfigured the IP etc...but all in vain....

can I be explained what SIOCGIFFLAGS and RTNETLINK are? and what is causing the error?

Thx and regards
D.

error adding address does not look good try sharp's reply here
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...gument-338727/

note you need root powers to make change.

also pls move onto Fedora 8 as 6 is wee bit old

if that does not work check out this thread
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...-still-343517/

and consider politely asking for help from one of the users?

thats not what I meant either...I mean if you email one of the good posters they may want to help everyone by being transparent and staying only on viewable posts....so the trick is to hijack a thread where the original poster has been satisfied and politely tell the other poster if they can help with a similar problem IF... the current links do not help

I was not suggesting that you have been or would be rude...its just that hijacking threads are sometimes frowned upon.
