rsync fedora <-> mac osx 10.3

Trying to establish an rsync job between a Fedora Core 1 running rsync 2.5.7 and a Mac OS X 10.3.2 running rsyncX 2.6.0 with hfs+ support.

Following cookbooks as usual, I edited /etc/inetd.conf and /etc/rsyncd.conf on both machines, checked /etc/services. All fine, but I don't seem to get out of my own back garden with the connection. Currently clueless what the problem might be.

If you've got it working, I'd love to hear from you!

Best regards,

Samsara

PS:

rsync: failed to connect to linuxmachine.somewhere.com: Connection refused
rsync error: error in socket IO (code 10) at clientserver.c(88)

rsync: failed to connect to macosx.somewhere.com: Connection refused
rsync error: error in socket IO (code 10) at clientserver.c(83)

I must sit down and learn about iptables. Seems I can't work it out from the manpage and output of "iptables -L"

Thanks for pointing out the weakness!

Apparently having firewall problems on both machines is pretty discouraging
