Routing network connection to OSX via a SuSE box

I have an iBook running Mac OSX 10.3. I also have a box running SuSE Linux Professional 9.0, which has two LAN cards. I'd appreciate the efforts of anyone who can help me out with my problem.

Since I've got only one LAN connection, I'd like to use the Linux box to be directly connected to the LAN, while the iBook can "share" the connection via the second card. I have configured the Linux box to connect to the LAN.

I have trouble configuring the iBook to share the connection - I primarily want to receive mail and do Web browsing via the iBook, while the Linux box runs a web server.

Can someone please help?

Thanks -
Shankar

ibook and SuSe

Hi,

Well, if you are running a webserver on the Linux, maybe it's easer to put a router inbetween them?

I myself have a router to which the linux is connected also running a webserver, and a mac (and more). The router sends certain incoming requests to the webserver (HTTP) and other things like mail, ftp etc. to the mac.

It works like a charm.

The DHCP in the router makes sure all the connected computers have internet access at all times.
In your case, if the linux fails to boot for whatever reason, you won't have internet on the ibook.

And routers start at 50 dollars or something like that, which isn't so bad.

Just a thought.

Many thanks for your suggestions, fisherman. Though I have got the setupp working (something to do with masquerading), I think your solution is more robust. I shall invest in a router....
