Rollover to db9

Hi all

Though i realize that this site is mostly intended for linux questions i am hoping that i can get an answer. I ask using form because i know there are people on this form that can answer my question. I apologize in advance to those of you who feel i should ask this somewhere else.

I have recently gotten a cisco 2515 Router and 1900 switch. These devices are used and i have no information about them so i will need to reset all the functions using a console port connection. It seems that the only way to do this is to use a db9 to rj45 connector or db25 to rj45.

I choose to use the db 9 connector. The problem is i cannot get the pinout correct. here is the diagram i am using.

Signal Console Port (DTE) RJ-45 Rolled Cable Adapter Signal

RJ-45 RJ-45Pin DB-9 Pin
CTS 1 8 7 RTS

DTR 2 7 4 DSR

TxD 3 6 3 RxD

GND 4 5 5 GND

GND 5 4 5
GND

RxD 6 3 2 TxD

DSR 7 2 6 DTR

RTS 8 1 8 CTS

Here is where i think that my bd 9 adapter is not working. the 5 pins seem to need to share some type of connection and i don’t know what i should do. i have left one or the other not connected and that seems to be no good. i have the rollover cables made that was the easy part. I just cannot get this db 9 adapter pinout correct.

Can you please help or steer me to the correct location for help.

thanks
