RHEL 3 ES EtherChannel Bonding Problem

I have problem with EtherChannel Bonding. Where I have no problem in
setting it up (according to the procedure given in the SAG) and it
works fine under light load. However, I have the following two
findings.

1. The throughput is much slower than using single NIC.
2. I have checked the ethereal log that there are a lot of ACK and even
Segment lost. In addition, there are a lot of DUP ACK also.

I have tried to connect my server onto two different switch (planet and
cisco 2970) which is a hundred and giga switch but unfortunately I got
problem with both switch.

I have tried to change the setting (mode=1 and mode=5 or mode=6) but
without luck, the same thing happened.

Pls find below the setting of /etc/modules.conf

alias bond0 bonding
options bonding miimon=100 mode=1 updelay=5000 arp_interval=1000
arp_ip_target=10.1.1.1 use_carrier

where 10.1.1.1 is the other host and it is also a RHEL ES 3 while it
just has a single leg and I am trying this test on a separated
environment.

Are all members of the etherchannel the same speed? are they all the same duplex settings? Have you followed any rules the switches may impose on what combination of ports are allowed to be ether-channelled. On the cisco have you set channeling to ON, not auto as I dont know if linux supports cisco PAgP.

For the trial, I have plugged both cable onto the same switch, is that gonna be a problem ?

Anyway, I will have a live trial on two switch and would like to know if I need to have special setting for the switch ?
