Angry RH9 weird Network Card Problem

hallo people,

I have some problems with my network card. I use a myson compatible network card, and it functions perfectly under windows xp, suse linux 8 and mandrake 9.1.. but it doesn't come up on RH9. I get all th etime the message: '..or network cable not attached', also the mii-tool gives an error message. I thought it might be a kernel problem (as the card work with all other kernels) so I downloaded a std 2.4.20 kernel and installed it. But the problem stays.. has anyone an idea what's wrong here??? I'd like to use RH9 because of the very actual level of the development tools etc..

Thx, Alexander.

PS: Sorry for bad english but I'm not native

hey people,

okay I got the network card working (but not very well!) by adding the following to /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 (as described by http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...threadid=53719):

check_link_down() {
return 1;
}

..this enables the card but ONLY in 10MBit halfduplex mode, it's not willing to run in any other mode (I use mii-tool).. another thing that happend is after I restarted back to Windows XP my internet router stopped responding (it hanged!), this maybe related to the network card prob I have to figure out..

Anyways, the other thread states something about the kernel and drivers not providing funtionality used by RH9 network scripts :s the question is, why does RH9 use them then?? Also only under RH9 (not under SuSE or Mandrake) after I use RH9 and restart to Windows XP directly my PS/2 mouse stops working (even by restarting to Linux again it won't work).. only a hard reset helps then.

Any other people having same behaviour???

Thx, Alexander.

PS: I use real, existing hardware, not VMWare
