RH7.1 & Netgear FA311 - no network card detected?

Hi,

I installed RH 7.1 on a HP Pavillion 9600 Athlon pc, with 128 MB ram, and an Netgear FA311 card. The install seemed to go ok, but there was no network dialogue during the install - now the install is finished, I cannot get any ip traffic through the network card (connected to cable modem - which works when I boot the pc under 98/NT 2000).

I found a Network dialogue under the Gnome desktop, but cannot find anywhere to say which card I have installed or to select another driver. (Under other Linux dist, there is a COAS dialogue, and Ethernet Interfaces - I cannot find this under the Gnome desktop of RH7.1)

Q. Has my nic been detected? If not, how do I install the FA311 driver - and where is the dialogue in the Gnome desktop?

Q. I selected to install both Gnome and KDE - when I select the Desktop Switching Tool, nothing happens, so I cannot switch to KDE. Does this mean I did something wrong in the setup?

Q. If I click on Netscape, nothing - in fact that happens when I click on lots of programs. Is the installation not complete?

Thanks, I am of course very new to Linux
JB

Do a search through these forums. This has been a very common problem, with several different methods to fix it.
