RH 9 machine can't see 3com gigabit card

I got a brand new 3com gigabit card, 3c2000. And I was able to compile the driver but the card itself doesn't light up.

And I get the following in log/messages:
kernel: sk98lin: No adapter found.

When I run insmod 3c2000.o, I get:
3c2000.o: init_module: No such device
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.
You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg

I'm installing this on machine with:
Abit Bh6
Celeron 300 @ 450Mhz. (hasn't caused any probs in 5 yrs)
3com 3c905c-txm
Highpoint Storage controler
Several WD drives
Matrox G400 Video Card

During boot up the "checking for hardware" thing didn't notice the card.

I tried the card in a much new computer and it worked. Is this hardware or software?
I've tried different pci slots and I think the bios is as up to date as possible.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

I am not sure whether it would be hardware or software. I did check on the Red Hat 9.0 compatibility list and I don't see that card listed. That web site is: http://www.redhat.com/software/rhl9_hcl.html
I have had trouble with hardware not being recognized by 9.0 and have had to change to get it to work. I'm not much of a hacker so I don't try to write my own drivers though. I am not sure that this has helped you any but at least you can know that you're not alone.
