RH 8.0 WWW -- can't browse

Hi!

Finally got my machine up and RH 8.0 installed the other day. I suspect there is some type of firewall or DNS issue with the box and I don't know how to fix it.

Problem 1:

1. RH8.0 Box DNS server IP address entry (per the bluecurve network util) 192.x.x.52
2. Functioning DNS server with accurately updated cache (per the linux server request) 192.x.x.52
3. I can ping and resolve successfully from terminal.
4. I can't access web pages via Mozilla in bluecurve. "The connection was refused when attempting to contact <website address>".
4. DNS doesn't appear to be the problem.

Problem 2:
1. When I update the information in the bluecurve network util (System Settings -> Network) I get an error. I have the log...just don't know how to get it off my box yet.
2. I'd love to find the file that contains the network settings. Can someone help me out here?

I know clicked no firewall on installation because I wanted to create my own security settings. But my experience tells me there is some type of IP filtering going on. Should I edit or delete the ipchains file?

Thanks for your help...I've been learning a lot as I browse this board.

edit*: dual nic - ip address: 192.x.x.60 - only one activated

The network files sit in /etc/sysconfig/networking/devices/

Sounds like you still have the firewall up, type "setup" in a termainal and turn it off. I have noticed with RH8 it seems to turn itself for some unknown reason. You will need to reboot (that is my expierence). Hope that helps

Thanks for the quick reply. I was able to turn the firewall off and can now get out after a reboot.

Does anyone know of a good site where I can find all the options for the ifcfg files? I have files with both nics name (inside, outside) and their device name (eth0, eth1). Which one should I use?

Thanks again!
