resolv.conf search line

Hi,

What should the 'search' line be in /etc/resolv.conf if your dhcp servers dont give you a DOMAIN? ....

It's just set defaultly to 'search', but i think it should be 'search .' or remove it completely? will have to hack the dhclient-script..

Thanks

Duncan

remove it. it will always search for that specific name, e.g. "linuxbox", but with the search line, it will also kindly look for "linuxbox.domain.com". if you don't want ti, just delete it.

Hi

Cool, thanks ...... Dhclient adds the line from dhclient-script, but because NTL's dhcp doesnt give a DOMAIN, it just puts "search" ..... I'll edit the script and stop it.

personally i used the -R option to dhcpcd to prevent resolv.conf being touched at all.. NTL's Nameservers bite.

True, they can do.. when they are working they are fast though

Which nameservers do you use as an alternative?
