REQ: DWL-650 complete setup instructions

I have the newer version of the DWL-650 PC card and running mandrake 9.1. I tried searching and they all said they somehow got it installed already. I haven't even gotten that far. When I plug it in, nothing happens. I tried searching google without much luck, either. Could someone say exactly how you go about isntalling this from the beginning (i.e. drivers to install, how to initialize the card, etc...) thanks.

Well, I don't have exact instructions, but I went here to find your card. It appears to be an ADMTek chip set. So I went here and found a set of linux drivers. I would download the latest tar file, untar it and follow the steps in the README which I would guess you will find.

Like I said, not exact instructions, but it is where I would start.

Cheers--

ahh that's why the linux-ng driver I tried using didn't work. I tried it last night and when I plugged the card in, nothing. I'll have to give this one a shot. Not sure if I will get a chance to do it durring the weekend, but I'll keep everyone updated. btw, do I download the ADM8211 driver?

Use your browser to browse to the page that has the drivers. It should show them as "links." Just click the link and the download should start. Save the tar file in a temp location (/tmp is good ).

OK, I finally got around to trying this and it appears to be working. Had to modify the makefile so it pointed to /usr/src/linux instead of /usr/src/linux-2.4 or something. And I had to make sure the card was plugged in before I installed the module Aside from that, and some headaches trying to figure out how to get it going in iwconfig, it seems to be working fine. Still does the same thing as it did in windblows where the link light goes out after a few minutes but I'm still connected, strange.

Also, since my home network uses dhcp, I had to manually restart dhcp on that interface using `dhclient eth1` (where eth1 is my wireless card) Now time to fire up the port sniffer and find me some open networks
