Remote desktop connections

Hi all. I recently started playing w/ remote desktop connections. W/ a lil persistence I have established connections over my network. Only thing is when connecting from my windows machine via (tightvnc viewer), to my linux desktop,(vncserver) I can only seem to get a remote "virtual login". I do not see and have access to the current login. I can however reverse the connection (starting vnc server) on the windows machine adding a client connect and have control of open over the windows system. Any idea's why I can only get a remote login to my linuz box?

Didn't know if I understand well what you said, but...

You're trying to control the same X session that you start on your Linux desktop with GDM (or KDM/XDM/whatever display manager you got...), instead of starting a whole new X session, which is what vncserver does.

That's what you're asking for?

well, a better suited tool for that is "x11vnc", from here.

you can use No Machine's NX Server for Linux, as well; in "shadow" mode.

Yeah, took all of 1 min and got exactly what I was wanting. I used the custom compression for (fast) but there still seems to be a bit of lag. Any way to smooth things out?
