Remote desktop connection suse 9.1
 

Hello.
I have successfully set up remote desktop connection over my LAN. I have tried to get this to work over the WAN as well (partly unsucessfull), to do this I forwarded the port 5801 from my router to my linux box, this is using both udp/tcp protocols.
The people who have tested this have reported that they get the vnc authentication page, then click Ok but then don't get the kde login page. Instead they just get a network error.
Over the lan I get the vnc logon page, click ok (with no password) and this connects to the logon screen.
How do I set up the vnc password?
Is that why i'm getting a network error over the WAN?
Are there any more ports other than 5801 That need to be forwarded?

This is the error my friends get when trying to connect,
Network error: no route to serve: <my ip>

Can't say I know Suse 9.1 that well, but I would make sure that VNC is allowing connections from outside your private network. It's very common for things like VNC to only allow access to localhost or the local subnet by default.

And what do I do to make sure that vnc is allowing connections from outside my own network.
I'm suspecting that it's got something to do with the vnc authentication process.
I did successfully forward the only port that it mentions. I'm really stuck with this

I got it working I portforwarded 2 ports on my router
5801
5901
Worked perfectly after that.

My next question is how to I put a vnc password on??
At the moment I can just click ok and it goes to the next login page.
Any ideas?

If you go into a Terminal window and type vncpasswd this should allow you to enter a password for your vnc connection...
