I installed SUSE 9.1 Pro on an old pc last night. I have a DLink router and cable modem for internet access. I have a couple windows machines behomd the router also.
I turned on remote admin and configured the router to pass ports 5801 and 5901 to the linux box. From outside, when I connect using a webbrowser to x.x.x.x:5801 . . . i get the expected VNC Authentication screen on the web browser with the password box and an OK button. I enter the password and click OK and I get the following:
Network error: could not connect to server: x.x.x.x:5901
Is this the return traffic coming back to me?
When I do this from inside my network using web browser 192..168.0.x:5801 it works fine. I am assuming I missed something on my router config ???
Well I never got VNC running correctly. I got putty. setup a ssh tunnel and can now run VNC through the ssh tunnel . . . . it works, not fast but it works.
