Regarding installationof Tata Indicom broadband in RHEL or CentOS

I have subscribed Tata Indicom LAN cable broadband at Mumbai, I cannot able to connect it with RHEL or CentOS I'm using. Any Linux users aware of this please tell me all the detailed steps to follow to setup Tata Indicom Broadband.

what kind of problem/error you are getting ?..
which mode you are using for connection ( pppoe or Bridged ) ?

ask your ISP about VPI/VCI, encapsulation and nameservers
i recommend you to go for always on ie. PPP/PPPoe.
set you dsl modem accordingly and put a ip from the subnet defined in modem to eth0 (can use dhcp ) enable NAT in modem
(enabled by default ) and place nameserver.

what type router you have installed, is it connected to ethernet or to usb.

for your information, there is no modem. there may be some device from which they connected my PC via ethernet cable which is plugged into LAN port directly.

there is no way to connect to internet without modem or router, you say it's connected to ethernet port so it should be a router. are you given any username and password to access internet by tata indicom.

ya, they have provided me username and password to access....but how to connect this through RHEL??

gopi.d 09-08-2007 02:59 AM

first check that your ethernet card is detected and installed in RHEL by going to Administration -> Network. if not installed then download & install the right drivers. then download & install roaring penguin PPP client and type ADSLsetup in terminal & enter your u-name password & other datas given by tataindicom.

chekc your modem configuration if it is configured for bridge mode do as directed by gopi.d and if it is configured for PPPoe/ppp mode(always on ie. you dont have to dial)give ip/default gateway/dns (if you are not using modem as dhcp server )to your rhl box.
pls post ifconfig -a and your modem model if you are stil not able to connect.
