regarding group permissions

Hi...
I created one group name icm_primary
in this i had three users name
xxxx
yyyy
zzzz
I create the above users using the following commands
# useradd -g icm_primary xxxx
# useradd -g icm_primary yyyy
# useradd -g icm_primary zzzz

the default permissions of these user's home directories were 700 .
i logon as xxxx user and tried to access the yyyy's home directory ( $ cd /home/yyyy) but i got permission denied message .. since these all users were in the same primary group (icm_primary) then they should share the resources only if they have permissions. that's why i gave the permission to the group only " read "...that's why i changed the permission of all user's home directories to 740 , and then i repeated my same experiment and got same message, then i chaged to 750 , got same message .

if i changed to 755 then only i am able to access the directory of another user... mean if i gave the permission to "others" then only i am able to access the other user's home directoy...

unless gave the permissions to other users option i am not able to access the directories of users with in the same group?

what is the need of changing the permissions to the " others " option ?
why i am not able to access the directories of users in the same group?
is there any other process to access the directories / files with in a group?

any help would be appreciated

thanx and regds..

What is your internal firewall set at (Levels 1 to 5)? -some of these levels will have a direct bearing on what can and cannot be accessed.
