Redhat v9 in VMWare and ADSL on XP blues

Hi,

I have sucessfully installed Redhat v9 as guest OS inside VMWare Workstation v4 running on Windows XP host. I've followed instructions in this forum and was able to fix the problem with the guest not getting an IP address.

I'm using NAT networking between the guest/host and am able to ping between them. My host is connected to the Internet via ADSL.

The problem is that I can't access the Internet from within the guest (HTTP, FTP etc.). I was under the impression that for NAT, no further configuration is necessary in either the guest/host.

What I'm seeing is that the guest is unable to ping the ADSL 'adapter' of Windows XP but is able to ping the IP address of the physical network adapter.

Help :-)

Check the gateway address set for guest Should be the address of your physical NIC.

Hi rlinuz,

I'm in the same situation as you are.

Got an XP host with adsl and as guest OS I have RedHat 9 installed. I can ping all the ip addresses, host IP + both virtual adapters from vmware + the ip from the adsl connection.

So far so good but the problem is that I can't get past the ADSL connection from within my guest OS. In vmware I chose NAT for the guest OS.

I would appreciate very much if you could give me some information on how to get things working so that I'm able to access the internet from within the guest OS.

tia
