Unhappy RedHat 9 network problem

I'm new to Linux and when I installed Redhat 9 I had a 10MB NIC in it and it worked fine but I changed it for a brand new 100MB card (and choose to migrate the config) but when I login it works fine for about 30sec then nothing works (I try to ping it from my other PC and it timeouts).

Is it possible that it switched the card off after a minute or so ? Any ideas ?

Open a terminal and login as root by typing su -

To see all your currently configured and active network devices, type:
Code:
service network status
To see some configuration info on all active network devices, type:
Code:
ifconfig
To see if Linux has detected your NIC and to which device it is assigned, type:
Code:
dmesg | grep eth[0-9]
The Ethernet configuration files are located in the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts directory and are named like ifcfg-ethX

You can also use RedHat's Network Configuration GUI,
In the menu, go to System Settings and click on Network.

thanks but everything seems ok in the config and it all works fine for the 1st few seconds (ping, samba and the web work) then it's like it's not connected.
