Ok, I just installed RH9 on my system and I am having no luck getting the internet to work. I have the interface up and running, but it will not configure thru DHCP. I'm at school right now and I was reading similar posts and saw somthing about dhcpclient, but I think I tried that but no luck. My network is on a hub, Cable Modem plugged into hub, and my linux box plugged into the same hub. It works on my Win2k machines, but not linux.
I'm having pretty much the same problem here. Set up my xp box with an linksys network everywhere dsl router (model NRO-41) that works fine as that is what I'm using now. My linux box is connected to the router through a linksys NC100U-WM lan card. None of the lights on the router or the lan card on my lihux box are on. Question is what does this mean? The lan card isn't set up right, bad card slot? Or maybe the network and internet settings in RH9 not set right? Well thanks for any help, if I can get linux to work on the internet I'll be using it more and maybe someday...someday I'll move beyond the newbie class and onto the next round.

Your not reading clearly are you?
What david_ross originally asked was to give the output of the two commands he posted. Can you do this or are you trying to make all this a guessing game for us, cause you know, were not psychic, we can't assume what the problem is.
Give us the output of these commands, along with the type of NIC you have, and any other hardware, software setups you might think can help you fix your problem:
well thanx for the reply's guys, but i got it fixed. just used a router instead of my hub.
the router's dhcp gets received, but my cable modem's dhcp didn't work. when i ran dhclient, i was sending packets, but not receiving any with it hooked up to the modem. but with the router it works fine.

route -n
lsmod
i was reading clearly. i had no ip address set to the interface, and when i tried those commands, i had no ip. i think my ISP didn't like how I had my network set up.

Most likely since you were using a hub and not a router, your ISP simply wasn't issuing you more IP's to get connected. Your router gets around that by sharing the same IP.
In order for your hub to work, you either needed to reset it or purchase additional IP's from your ISP.
I have a limit of 3 IP'z. My node was the only one connected to the hub. I made sure of that. I don't understand why the DHCP from my router works fine, my the DHCP from the modem was all screwey, I would send broadcasts, but I wouldn't get any DHCPDISCOVER messages back or any messages at all.
