Question Redhat 8 aironet PCI installation

Hi!
I am trying to install an Aironet 340 PCI/ISA Wireless client adapter on my desktop with Redhat 8.
I downloaded the drivers from cisco and followed the recommended procedure but there does not seem to be any response from the card. I only see the orange light turned on which also goes off as soon as I "insmod airo.o".

Please, I would appreciate any help!!

Thank you!

You shouldn't need to install any drivers, airo.o should come with RH.
Don't try "sh ./cwinstall", that just gave me grieve.

To start over type
sh kpciinstall -R
Then reinstall your drivers with
sh kpciinstall

This script will do everything for you. Type lsmod and you should see:
airo_cs
airo
Don't forget to do ifconfig, the scripts won't do this for you. If you need help on that, just post the request.

Alot of people seem to have trouble just getting the AIRO card to do ANYTHING. If you have Red Hat then you don't need to install any drivers, you just need to configure your device.

I'm sure the following isn't the best solution, but it worked for me:

> cd /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts
> ls
If you don't have a file called ifcfg-eth0, then
> pico ifcfg-eth0
Otherwise you'll need to make a file with ONE number higher, like:
> pico ifcfg-eth1
You file should look like (leave out the brackets&contents):
DEVICE='ethX' (x is the number in your file name)
BOOTPROTO='none'
ONBOOT='yes'
IPADDR=picksomeaddress (eg. 10.0.10.50)
TYPE=Ethernet
USERCTL=no
NETMASK=appropriatemask (eg. 255.255.255.0)
NETWORK=subnet (eg. 10.0.10.0)
BROADCAST=subnet.255 (eg. 10.0.10.255)

Note that your laptop and AP must belong to the same subnet. save file and reboot your computer. You should be able to ping your AP. YOu may want to add a default route to your switch/router/whatever:
route add default gw 10.0.10.1
(replace with your switch's AP interface IP address).

Thanks Lugh.

I did, since the beggining, installed the drivers using "kpciinstall" and got this problem!

Another thing: Could the firmware version be an issue here?

Please do let me know on the details about "ifconfig". I would really prefer to go with that option first.

Many thanks Lugh!

Since RH already has drivers, you need to remove those first. My first post covers that.
My 2nd post covers ifconfig.
