Redhad Linux dropping IP packets on network with VLANs

I have several Linux configurations on my network. I am having problems with two servers, one running RH 6.2 2.2.14-6.1.1smp and the other running RH 7.1 2.4.2-2smp.

We just upgraded from shared hubs to a switched network with VLANS. We use an HP 9315 routing switch for our main backbone. The Linux servers work great for anyone outside the HP routing switch. The problem comes when they access from IP domains that are routed through the VLANs on the 9315, it drops about 80% of the IP packets MOST of the time. Sometimes connections are flawless, come back to the same machine an hour later and connections time out, come back 10 minutes later and flawless connection again. (times just an example)

Running Apache on the servers, but since it also drops ping packets, I don't think it is Apache related.

I don't think they are running gated or routed, at least they aren't set up to be routers.

Anybody have ANY ideas? Maybe OSPF issues? I have to go get stitches in my head from banging it against the wall. Does anybody know of any issues with older versions of Linux and routing with VLANs?

NOTE: RH 9 2.4.20-6 does not seem to have the problem.

ANY help is greatly appreciated!!!
