Question read only samba problem


I am making a small samba server in fedora 5 and every time i log into it in windows and try to put a file on it it says

Can not copy file make sure the file is not write protected...

I tryed everything i am in the right work groop and i even tryed to put a file in the location on linux to try to see it in windows but it never turned up.

Examine the contents of /etc/samba/smb.conf and find your share, then ensure that under your share that there is a line which reads writable = yes.

Also make sure that there isn't another such writable line below that one where it declares it as no. A lot of people end up with Samba configurations that make this mistake because the config file has crazy amount of commentary that goes on forever.

Finally, ensure that whatever user you are logging into this samba server as has write permissions to the folder you're trying to write to. If you're not using user based security, you should. Public userless shares are a bad idea.
