RDC over VPN is very slow

I connect to my work with GRDC through a VPN. All worked fine until yesterday. IT is now very slow. Could this have anything to do with the fact that Update Manager was only able to do a partial upgrade?

I use Ubuntu 9.10

I tried the RDC on a Win XP machine and the speed is normal, so I don't think the Remote Desktop Server is the problem. Is there a way to test thespeed of the VPN connection or the RDC connection?

Any help is welcome

I had a problem with my networking in UBUNTU 9.10 (not over VPN but in general) I disabled IPV6 DNS resolutions.
Testing the speed over a VPN to and remote connection sourceforge.net has a few tools iperf.exe for windows. But if Windows is fine then there shouldn't be a problem with the VPN tunnel itself.

If you suspect the vpn then try a file transfer to see speeds. A vpn should act like a normal lan but has overhead for encryption. I guess it could be possible that some network parameter is off. MTU used to be a biggie.

Thanks guys,

I don't know what happened, but the problem has disappeared without any deliberate action on my side. I appreciate your input.
