Raw Ethernet
Hi all,
here is what I want to do:
I want to send packets from one PC to another. These packets should be sent as RAW ethernet packets without any further protocol as IP, TCP, UDP ...
So I am using an ethernet II frame and sockets. The ethernet II frame contains the header (dest, src, type), the payload and the checksum (see wikipedia for ethernet II).
My question is, who is generating the checksum. I tried to fill the checksum by hand (setting the last 4 bytes in the buffer) and sent it. I monitored the packets on both PCs via wireshark and was not able to see my checksum.
Does the network adapter override the ethernet II checksum with the correct one and did the receiver adapter check it and remove it?
I didn't find any information about that link layer checksum and would be grateful for any hints!
Thanks, Florian
