Quick Samba question....

Not a big deal or anything but just something I was curious about. I was working on backing up my MP3 collection again, and I copied all the files from my Slack server to my workstation (also running Slack). From there I backed that up by burning em to DVD. Now when I am deleting the MP3 folder on my workstation to clear up some space I am seeing something that I am curious about. Basically when I empty my Trash on my workstation it's still accessing the server for some reason even though the files I am deleting were on the local hard drive. Why is it doing this? At first it got me paranoid b/c I thought it might be deleting files from the server but luckily they are still in tact. So anyways, why is it doing this?

What do you mean "still accessing the server"? How?

It is plain and simple. Files were copied from server to local desktop hard disk....burned to DVD....then deleted from local hard disk. In the process of deleting it is STILL accessing the server for something. The process dialog comes up when emptying my Trash, the switch lights start blinking between my desktop and server, the smbd process is being ran on my Slack server at the time under MY username, and iptraf is showing packets being transferred between my desktop and the server when it occurs. I suppose I could check the samba logs but I dunno if those will give much information or not.

It is still going to be connected to the server until you manually unmount the shares.
