Quick Patch-O-Matic question

I've come across a couple of guides for installing patch-o-matic but they all want me to recompile my kernel.

Is it possible to load it as a module and then I wouldn't have to recompile my kernel?

POM is "a system to apply netfilter-related patches to the latest kernel and/or iptables sources". Kinda sums it up, doesn't it.
