Os the firewall running on the samba server, if it is, maybe stopping that and see if you can connect. Also have you added users to the samba server? The samba server needs to have and unix accounts as well as a samba accounts and passwords for the accounts to be the same. Can you post your smb.conf so we can have a look at the setup.
Just before checking this post, I went through my swat.
I realise my smbd is not running at all, which is odd as the two other server ( nmbd and winbindd ) are running properly.
Is there any way to make it run ? I hhave been clicking run server and restart server and even restart as a daemon byt nothing works .. anyw suggestions ?
The objective of me touching this config is just to have this linux machine to be connected to the existing tango server which has the workgroup optusdom. Is there anything that i have done wrong ?
Back to what has been requested, my smb.conf is as follows :

You can start samba via the command line, type these in as 'root':
service smb restart
or
/etc/rc.d/init.d/samba start
One of those should start the samba server, usually samba will always start when machine boots up when you install it on a machine, funny it hasn't in your case.
The smb.conf looks ok, if you just wanting to access the share on the samba server, you should be able to through your web browser. Just type in the following in the address bar of your web browser:
smb:/username@servername/sharename
Then a logon screen should appear and then enter the password. Although I see in your smb.conf you have put 'security = SHARE' so it may not ask for a password, also i'm not sure if samba is case sensitive but maybe change it to lowercase 'share'.
If you are wanting to mount the shares from the server to your linux client at boot time, that's has a bit more to it, I haven't gotten that far yet, i'm still in the process of doing it myself.
