question about xfsamba4
 

I've been desperately looking for help on getting a GUI for Netatalk. I heard that xfsamba4 is capable of working as a GUI for Netatalk but I had no luck in finding how to do that. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Apparently Netatalk and Samba run similar so they are able to used in conjunction to find Windows and Appletalk networks. How true is this claim and is there documentation on how to get Linux to see the Appletalk network?

Hi, I've done a bit of googling on your behalf. I found no references that xfsamba4 will or will not work with netatalk. I did find this.

I'm really not familiar with the apple protocols, so there may very well be a better tool available. As far as setup goes there is documentation here.

Unfortunately I already have TK Chooser and had a problem with it. It asked me to "mount point" when I want to access the apple share but nothing i do seems to get it to mount point. Quite frankly, I don't really understand what mount point means. So I decided to get into contact with the guy who created it. He stopped working on this TK Chooser years ago so he lost track of what has happened with it. Because of my lack of success with TK Chooser, I thought I'd try finding another GUI for Netatalk. Thanks for your effort though. It appears like there is no GUI for Netatalk. :mad:

Well you might be closer than you think. The mount point is simply a point on your drive to mount the volume, or share. Try this, create a directory in /mnt something like /mnt/appleshare. When promted for the mount point choose this directory. I'm not sure if that will work, but, if the apple share works like an smb share, then that should get you there.

On the other hand the mount point prompt may be asking you to choose the share, in that case navigate to the share, and select it.

Hey so I tried to get the mount point to open somewhere on my hard drive but it won't do that either. The other weird thing is that I cannot navigate the apple share on the computer. I can see the Mac but cannot see the shares for the Mac. When I want to open up the shares for the Mac, that's when it asks me to mount point. So I really don't get what the heck the deal is for that.

Keep in mind I'm working blind here, but it sounds as if my first suggestion may work. Try making the share in /mnt, when it asks for the mount point put that in. Again, I'm not looking at the app, so be as desriptive as possible. Here's another thought, could you post a screenshot somewhere so I can look at what you're looking at.
