Question Question about Samba in WIN Domain

Hi,
AS you all know I have been trying to get printng to work thorough Cups and Samba.
Now I have a WIN Domian witn WIN Nt 4 as my Authinication Server(PDC)- and 4 other W2k Servers.
Now I want to add a Linux Box with Samba and Cups as my printer server.
The question I have is this Does Samba REQUIRE it be the PDC in joining a domain?

I think if I let join as a workgroup this should work right?
THen I just setup Cups to share a printer?

Thanks and a quick response would be greatly apreciated...

It has been a while since I have done this, so this may not be right. If you want you Linux box to join a domain you need to create a machine account on the PDC then do a smbpasswd -r <machine name> -j <domain name>. Tat should do it.

Thanks Tangle- I just don't want to screw up my network here at work....
This make sense to me also- becuase if I create the machine this give M$ something for it to say ok you can come in. Whiel at the same time we don't mess with PDC settings just yet.
I want to replace my PDC with a Linux box very soon but I have a lot testing and an issue with migrating my users to Linux just yet.
Also XP is proving to be a very difficult piece of crap to be friendly towards anything but M$ crap. I really wish the law suit had of had more teeth in to such as Monopolic pratices such as unfriendly sharing and stupid price gouging.
In stead they went after IE which now as I understand it will no longer be a stand a lone product? Since when was it in the first place?

THanks again,
ikw38

I would drop XP and use 2000. Where I work we by the XP license but can install 2000. I am not sure about the what licensing we are using but I find 2000 a better business OS than XP.
