prolems forwarding ip and pppd

Heres the situation: I have a redhat 7.3 machine, fully updated. I am working on configuring for a dialup server. I have read over multiple FAQs and walkthroughs trying to figure out what is needed. Currently I have it set up to a point where mgetty answers the line when it rings, pppd automatically grabs the session, the windows machine logs in, it grabs its IP number, the servers IP number and the DNS numbers, buuuut, it won't go anywhere.

It can't ping the server, can't do DNS lookups, can't hit the outside world at all. I have looked all over trying to figure out what is going on. I have already done the echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward. I have set ipchains to allow all to all on all lists as a test, nothing.

Suggestions?

From the windows machine that is dialed up I can not ping anything other than its IP, but it has the IP and DNS servers that the server assigned it. The server can not ping that IP, or if I assign the ethernet card that range of IPs, with the intent to forward one to the dial up, I get a response from the ethernet card. Looking at the dial up stats, it shows that it is sending data up the line, but its not getting much of a response. Checking /proc/tty/driver/serial the com port shows that it has received data but not sent much (tx 654 rx 6033) and the modem shows that when I ping an outside IP that it is transmitting, the server just doesn't do anything with it.

Hi,
you can try first this
echo "1">/proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward
Note: I had to use the inverted comma elsewhere it doesn't function
Second, Do you create the file options.ttySx???
If so, check the Ip that you assign to the server and to the client. If you have an internal network, I suggest you to use a different subnet eg. you can change the third byte...
I hope this is useful...
Have a nice day...
