Problems with static ip

Ok, I'm trying to connect to a hub that doesn't have dhcp enabled. I've tried manually with both netconfig and editing rc.inet1.config, but nothing.

The gateway is 141.30.181.94
The subnet mask is 255.255.0.0
An unused ip address 141.30.181.61

The problem I'm having is after I insert these settings and reboot, i check ifconfig. It gives me the following for the gateway : 141.30.255.255.

Runnig Slackware 10.0

PS:I took the gateway and subnet mask from a windows computer connectd to the same hub.

are you sure you're looking at this right?

-> check route, and see what it says about gateway
-> are you sure you should be using that address/mask?
-> http://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc3330.txt

edit:
describe your network connection -- i'm guessing you're on cable, and how've you got it connected to the network?
