I have Slack 9.1 and a D-Link 300G+ external ADSL modem that connects to my PC via a CAT5 cable.
After running netconfig, choosing a hostname and setting everything up to DHCP my internet worked after a reboot, but after another one nothing happens, I get some messages with 'DHCP' in them and they seem to indicate that it's working, but it doesn't. All requests for webpages etc time out.
I have NO idea where to look and I can't find any info on the net and I'm not very sure how the whole DHCP server thing works so I'm finding it very difficult.
I didn't use ADSL setup because I didn't have to, it worked for a while after running just netconfig.
I thought adsl setup was for USB type adsl modems that aren't always on (IE can't be connected while the computer is off). My modem stores all passwords and config on the modem itself and it setup by accessing a webpage on the modem on op 192.168.0.1. Incidentally I can't access 192.168.0.1 either.
I have the exact same modem you have. As you can see from my post (just search this forum for 300G+ and it will come up) I too had some trouble getting it to work. Can you post the usual suspects (lsmod, dmesg entries relating to eth0, eth1, whatever your card is on, ifconfig and dhcpcd -d) and maybe we can work out whats going on. What services did you set up to run when you installed Slack 9.1? You are correct in thinking you don't need to do any ADSL setup, at that was taken up when you entered your information into the modem on 192.168.0.1, once thats done you don't need to touch anything else.
