Problems using vsftpd on Mandrake 9.2 w/ firewall

I have been having a terrible time getting vsftpd to work while my firewall is up and running. I have allowences for FTP connections in my firewall, but as soon as I turn in on, the client-side machine has a hard time connecting. It will pull up the directory tree but will not display it in WS_FTP unless I hit "cancel" This behaviour continues until I turn off my server-side firewall.

Here is my vsftpd.conf file:

anonymous_enable=YES

local_enable=YES

write_enable=YES

#local_umask=022

#anon_upload_enable=YES

#anon_mkdir_write_enable=YES

dirmessage_enable=YES

xferlog_enable=YES

connect_from_port_20=YES

#chown_uploads=YES
#chown_username=whoever

#xferlog_file=/var/log/vsftpd.log

#xferlog_std_format=YES

#idle_session_timeout=600

#data_connection_timeout=120

#nopriv_user=ftpsecure

#async_abor_enable=YES

#ascii_upload_enable=YES
#ascii_download_enable=YES

#ftpd_banner=Welcome to blah FTP service.

#deny_email_enable=YES

#banned_email_file=/etc/vsftpd.banned_emails
#

#chroot_list_enable=YES

#chroot_list_file=/etc/vsftpd.chroot_list

#ls_recurse_enable=YES

What should I do to be able to run my firewall and my FTP server at the same time???

Any input would be appreciated!

exactly what do you have configured in the firewall to allow ftp? Do you allow both port 20 and 21 for example? What do the firewall logs show is happening?
