Unhappy Problems connecting to ADSL (with pppd / pppoatm)

Im trying to set up a PCI conexant based ADSL cardi on my linux box. Ive got so far but now im struggling.

ADSL here uses PPP over ATM.

Firstly im running Debian Sarge, pppd version 2.4.2, kernel 2.4.27 with the relevent ATM options compiled. Ive installed the latest atm-tools and dev packages and atp is saying its the latest version.

Ive compiled the conextant driver off this site:

http://patrick.spacesurfer.com/linux...ci_adsl.html#r

and it compiled without error.

The status program shows "showtime" and also the program showing my line has synchronised at the correct speed.

The problem is whenever i run pppd to try to connect after doing this, nothing happens, no errors to trace. All i get in syslog is:

Quote:
Mar 6 02:03:59 string pppd[13936]: Plugin /usr/lib/pppd/2.4.2/pppoatm.so loaded.
Mar 6 02:03:59 string pppd[13936]: PPPoATM plugin_init
Mar 6 02:03:59 string pppd[13936]: PPPoATM setdevname - remove unwanted options
Mar 6 02:03:59 string pppd[13936]: PPPoATM setdevname_pppoatm - SUCCESS:0.38
Mar 6 02:03:59 string pppd[13938]: pppd 2.4.2 started by root, uid 0
Mar 6 02:03:59 string pppd[13938]: Exit.
In other words, pppd initialises it seems and them immediately exits without saying why. Ive got no real idea why its doing it.

My PPP options file contains:

Quote:
debug
noauth
plugin /usr/lib/pppd/2.4.2/pppoatm.so 0.38
noipdefault
kdebug 1
nopcomp
debug
noccp
novj
holdoff 4
maxfail 25
persist
usepeerdns
defaultroute
user "my_adsl_username@here"
The correct user/pass details are in chap-secrets although looking at syslog it isnt getting that far.

Ive had a search around google and this forum and others and cant seem to find anyone with the same problem so though its worth asking.

Im GUESSING this maybe more of a ppp or ATM problem as opposed to the adsl card driver given it seems to synchronise and report as OK.
