Hi just got my linux server up and running, using redhat 9. I have setup shares in samba and can browse to them on my Windows XP machine- the problem is i can't put anything in the folders. I keep getting an access denied message, the share is set up to allow read/write access to everyone. However, it did ask me for a password in windows when i connected to it but i just used the password for my user account on the linux machine.
Another problem is that i couldn't set up a share to allow access only to certain users. Under the option to allow access to groups it only had the adm group and not any of the user groups i had set up.
I'm new to linux so i've only been using the GUI to configure and i think thats all i can manage at the moment.
for the password problem, look for a value in the config, guest ok =yes .
and for the creating/deleting and writing of files to the shared folder, make sure the permissions are correct, chmod 777 /directory and look in the config for writeable=yes .
