I have been fighting with this for almost a whole week.

I currently have 1 NE2000 NIC install on eth0 i/o 0x300 irq 5 and using the ne.o driver this works fine.

I added a 2nd NIC ( DE-220P ISA- this is listed on RH compatiablity list for hardware) and tring to make it eth1. The i/o setting in the kernel is 320 and irq 12. In the Kernel setting I'm using the ne.o driver, RH suggested using this. When i boot up I get the message Delay eth1 Initialization. I get the same message when doing the command : ifup eth1

When I check the /var/log/boot.log on eth1 it has:

ifdown:eth1 unknown interface: No suce deveice
ifdown:eth1 error fetching interface inforamtion: Device not found
network: Shutting down interface eth1 succeeded

I added the DE-220P to the kernel via the control-panel, netconf and the module.conf. However, when I either do a ifconfig -a or dmesg the NIC don't show up.

:::::what I tried so far::::::

I changed the settings on the DE-220P to match that of eth0 and removed the NE2000 from the computer and ran it as a stand alone card and it worked just fine. I was able to ping the other computers on the network. I change everything back to their original settings. The problem still present.

I also tried differnet I/O anddress and IRQ but stilled failed.

I also tried adding the line append="ether=0,0,eth0 ether=0,0,eth1" in the lilo.conf, both with 0s and with address and still getting the same message Delay eth1 Initialization.

I checked /proc/interrupts and ioports for any conflicts and there is no conflict with either the IRQ or I/O address.

I'm currently running RH 7.0 on a AMD K5 w/32 megs RAM and 4gig HD with S3 virgo PCI video card serial mouse.

I had RH 6.1 and upgraded to RH 7.0 hoping this would resolve this issue but is did not. I did a clean install.

What am I missing or doing wrong?

Any help will greatly be appreciated

Larry
