problem sharing directory on rh9 server

On the server (linuxserver on linuxlan.com) I have a dirctory (rhdocs) I want to share with my rh9 workstation. On the server there is /etc/exports that contains the line rhdocs *(ro) to share it. On the workstation the command

mount linuxserver.linuxlan.com:/rhdocs

results in the message

mount: can't find linuxserver.linuxlan.com:/rhdocs in /etc/fstab or /etc/mtab

DNS is working and I can ping both linuxserver and linuxser.linuxlan.com.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

kettermw,

You need to specify where to mount the filesystem: mount <hostname>:<directory> <local dir>

mount linuxserver.linuxlan.com:/rhdocs /mnt

The error is because mount is trying to see if you have specified the local directory somewhere.

Good Luck,
chris

OK, that makes sense. Thank you. I've created a new directory on the workstation (/localrhdocs) and issue the command

mount linuxserver.linulan.com:/rhdocs /localrhdocs

and the message is now:

"...failed, reason given by server: Permission denied." The file attributes on both directories is rwxrwxrwx.

Thanks.

What's the output of 'showmount -e linuxserver.linulan.com'?

I must have had a typo or something as it's ok now. To answer the question, though, the results of "showmount -e linuxserver.linuxlan.com" is "/rhdocs *".

Thanks for your help.
