Problem deleting files smb://mybookworld

Hi I have a problem deleting files from a network hard drive.

Its called MYBOOKWORLD …... (western digital)

On my Ubuntu (10.04) PC I'm root.

I access the files on the drive from my PC (as root) via Gnome Nautilus 2.31.1

Clicking places
Clicking network
Clicking entire network

smb://mybookworld/movie/

Several hundred files exist (e.g. movie/Wales-08.ts).
(movie “”is”” the name of a subdirectory under smb://mybookworld/movie/)
(smb://mybookworld/movie/movie/Wales-08.ts)

Right clicking on these files and choosing properties and then permissions.

I get the following message.......

“The permissions of Wales-08.ts could not be determined.”

Any suggestions where to start?

I guess I have to open terminal and chmod +x and/or chown them, but I cant work out the syntax of the command?

I forgot to mention that the files on the network storage have the closed padlock symbol.

In hindsight I probably should have posted this question somewhere else, if a moderator reads this please could you move it to a more appropriate forum. (Sorry)
