problem connecting to internet

I have settings for my static ip, subnet mask, default gateway and nameservers.
Under windows these settings work fine but i can't get it to work on linux

in kde, when the computer boots i get a message that "network is up on eth0" clicking on this takes me to a graph showing data in and out.
This shows that data is being recieved but not sent, below is a button to connect, and a status bar that says not connected.
When i click connect, it fails and says to check the settings.

Are there any config files i should post to show whats happening and current settings.

Either shut down the IPTABLES or flush the iptables rules out n then try.

service iptables stop
or
iptables -F

Then feedback.. Also try pinging some internet sites n post the error you get.
