Problem configuring X over SSH

People:

I have the following problem: I am running Red Hat 8 and I'm using SSH to admin and monitor my internal network

The service is working ok, but I want it to enable X under SSH.

I checked out some info about it and I configured Putty in Tunneling to allow X11 Fowarding
I also configured the following files:
(/etc/ssh/sshd_config):

X11Forwarding yes
X11DisplayOffset 10
X11UseLocalhost yes

And the ssh client (/etc/ssh/ssh_config):
ForwardAgent yes
ForwardX11 yes

After that, when I am on SSH and run startx I get the following error:

(==) Log file: "/var/log/XFree86.0.log", Time: Tue Sep 9 06:04:29 2003
(==) Using config file: "/etc/X11/XF86Config"
(WW) ATI(0): Failed to set up write-combining range (0xc2000000,0x400000)
(WW) ATI(0): Failed to set up write-combining range (0xc2000000,0x400000)
Could not init font path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo/, removing from list!

And I cannot go any further

I looked for more info about this:

And I read that on /etc/X11/XF86Config I have to uncomment the following files

---- /etc/X11/XF86Config ----
...
Section "Files"
...
ModulePath "/usr/X11R6/lib/modules"
...
FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo/"
FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1/"
FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/CID/"
...
EndSection
...
Section "Module"
...
Load "freetype"
Load "type1"
Load "speedo"
...
EndSection
...
---- /etc/X11/XF86Config ----

I already did that but I get the same error, Do u know what is wrong with my configuration?

I really need to enable X on SSH so users can log on remotely.

Thanks in advance
Regards

I guess you could use it that way but I use a local X server and ssh X forwarding to forward the applications themselves. Such as running gimp from one box on another.

Maybe this will help you:

Do you want to use X applications from one box while logged in at another? I'm not sure about the PuTTy part of this equation (I certainly can't use X applications from box a when logged in to box a using PuTTy on box b) but if you ssh from Linux A to Linux B then use "ssh -C -X your.address.here" and then you should be able to start X apps from the remote command line.

you need a program running on the computer your using with PUTTY to interpret the X11 commands that are being forwarded.
one program you can use is Exceed.

this will allow you to run Netscape on your local machine.
