Printing with samba

I've gone through several posts here but haven't found any that help. Here is my problem....

I have a Suse 9.2 box that I'm using as a file/print server. File shares are quick but printing from my XP Home box is incredibly slow. Has anyone been able to fix this problem?

Thanks,
Bryan

Moved: This thread is more suitable in Linux-Networking and has been moved accordingly to help your thread/question get the exposure it deserves.

There are two reasons I see at this point: printer configuration and Samba configration. Does the printer work better if you print from Linux?

Please post the part of Samba configration file about printer.

Here is the section from smb.conf for the printer....

[printers]
comment = HP Deskjet 640c
path = /var/tmp/
printable = yes
create mask = 0600
inherit permissions = yes
guest ok = yes
printer name = hp_deskjet640c

It looks OK. What about my second question: Does the printer work better if you print from Linux?

Instead of setting XP to print via smb, set the location (when you add the printer, select "URL") to http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:631/printers/printername ...I have the same issues with samba/xp and this works around it nicely...
