Printing using suse8.1 on a win network

Hi, I'm a newbie to networking and need a little help.

I am running 2 machines: 1 is puely winxp and has the printer attached.

The second is a winxp/suse8.1 dual boot.
I set up the network and allowed winxp to configure both machine and it happily runns in that environment.

I have set up the network card in the linux half of the second machine and I can ping the first (and vice versa). I have even used YaST to find the printer queue on the first machine. But when I print the document disappears into the ether.

Am I still supposed to be using cups? or LRP?
I think I have set up samba but I am not really sure - during boot up it tells me that smb is not being used!

Can anyone help?

-Use CUPS... LPR is old and becoming oboslete.

-If your printer is hooked up to your linux box then you need samba installed for your windows machine to print to it.

-I don't believe you need samba the server component running to print from your linux box to your windows machine. You however need the smbclient program.

Does this answer your question?

Thanks - so I don't need the full samba - I think I must be nearly there.

During set up YaST asks me for a user name and password.

When I set up the printer on the winxp I didn't give it one, but the setup won't complete without it. So I used owner without a password was that right?

If you have a user account on your machine called owner and it has no password on your XP machine that would be the correct username and password.

Ok so far so good - but I still cannot print.

Does anyone know if there are problems with the epson cx3200 printer?

I am using the driver for the epson c60 driver when I plug it straight into my machine so assumed I had to do the same thr the network?
