Printing from XP to a Slug via CUPS - "Get-Printer-Attributes successful-ok "

I'm trying to print to a CUPS printer attached to a NSLU2. I gave up trying to get Samba working, so thought I'd use IPP to print from my XP box. Printing from any other linux box on the network is fine. I set up the printer on the XP box (detected fine by url) as a HP OfficeJet and the add printers box freezes after adding the driver. If I install he printer as a generic postscript, instead of freezing, the add printer dialog finishes but the test page never arrives. If I look at the CUPS access log on the slug, it has loads of this "POST /printers/HP990C HTTP/1.1" 200 122 Get-Printer-Attributes successful-ok" (with the ip of the xp box) and nothing else.

It's a new (re)installation of XP and the CUPS is version 1.3.9, although it was the same with a previous version.

Any ideas anyone? I've seen this problem mentioned elsewhere with no resolution...
